Green-Wood Cemetery – The Green-house at Green-wood

The restoration of the historic Weir Greenhouse and creation of The Green-house at Green-wood exemplify who we are and the kind of work we aspire to do. One of our earliest projects and a true labor of love, it has taken nearly a decade to realize. Over that time, we guided the project through leadership transitions, a pandemic, mayoral changes, and Green-wood’s transformation into a cultural institution.

The Green-house establishes a vital new presence on the 478-acre campus, blending the restored greenhouse with a contemporary structure to create a gateway for learning, reflection, and community engagement. Supported by public funding, the project emphasizes sustainable design and contextual materials, ensuring the facility honors the site’s history while serving Green-wood’s future.

Our role was to enable each party to focus on what they do best, supporting Greenwood’s growth into a thriving cultural institution, allowing the design team to pursue design excellence, and providing leadership with clear visibility into cost and schedule. We see every project as an opportunity to build long-term relationships, and our partnership with Green-wood reflects that commitment. By tightly managing consultants, navigating complex approvals, including the NYC Landmark Preservation Committee, and streamlining construction administration, we delivered cost savings while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

Completed on time and within budget, The Green-house at Green-wood reflects the deep commitment of all involved to community building, design excellence, and Green-wood’s evolution as both an active cemetery and a cultural landmark.
