The Bushwick Starr

The renovation of the Bushwick Starr transformed a 5,000 SF industrial space into a dynamic black box theater that serves as a cultural hub in the heart of Bushwick. This project included the creation of versatile performance areas, rehearsal studios, office spaces, and public spaces designed to host talks, film screenings, community programming, and local artists’ shows. The new venue plays a pivotal role in fostering creative expression, while also supporting community engagement through dedicated spaces for youth and local artists.

AtW’s role was integral in guiding the Bushwick Starr through its first major capital and construction project. Our team’s expertise was essential in managing the complexities of extensive public funding, a tight budget, and a challenging schedule. We provided leadership and structure. Our hands-on approach allowed us to collaborate closely with the client team, successfully balancing the project’s artistic vision with practical requirements.
